Krav on Wednesday went well. If I’m not mistaken, we’ve covered all of P2 now.

We spend Ladies’ Night working on Relay for Life stuff, fencing practice was cancelled Friday, and I was too sick to go to fencing on Sunday. At least I got to prop myself up in a lawn chair and be sick outside on such a beautiful day. It looks like i’m too sick to fight tonight too.

I am grumpy.

I do have some good news, though. I don’t need to have surgery on the finger. I have a bone bruise, and I start occupational therapy at the end of this week.

Tonight Nik and I spent some time in the studio working on hand to hand combat. I’m working extra hard on my inside defense to get ready for my proficiency test next month. We had a lot of fun trying out different combinations, and I think I’m getting more consistent.

Day 26

Today I did 100 lunges.

More importantly, I went to UWF fencing practice and fenced almost everyone there. I worked with some young men who missed a lot of practice time and then had some fun with the usual group.

I have a fencer with something weird going on. I think it’s biomechanical. It seems like no matter how her sword is balanced or how heavy her sword is, there’s a weakness in her wrists. Her attacks are super wide. If you’ve seen anything like this, please hit me up. I’m at a loss here.

Yesterday I went to SCA practice in Birmingham. I got to fence with people I don’t see a lot.

After practice, Nik and I talked about ways to offer advice to someone who has been doing this longer than you have without being condescending. Everyone received us well, but it’s hard to offer help if you’re worried you’ll come across as a jerk. Again, if you have any insight, please send it my way. I love fencing, and I don’t want to piss anyone off or chase anyone away.

I’m really looking forward to this weekend.

Yesterday I turned 30! Happy birthday to me!

It was yoga day, which was just what I needed since my back muscles were super sore from plucking those chokes Monday night. My yogi noted it was my birthday and asked if I had any special requests. She’s so thoughtful! I told her about the soreness, and her class really helped stretch out those muscles between my shoulder blades.

…Now to do it again tonight.

Nik gave me a striking pad for my birthday, so now I can punch to my little heart’s content at home. I’m excited at the prospect of training with a person on non-class nights. I’d like to do more fencing too, but with the weather and all our other activities, I just haven’t been practicing much outside of class time.
