CIC 2 Day 7

Today we worked on lifted bear hugs in the morning. We learned some tools for working with tall people who are unlikely to be picked up off the ground during regular practice.

We also did a mock test. I understand the skills we covered, but I get nervous and make bonehead mistakes. I hope that doesn’t trip me up on Monday.

I led the afternoon warm-up. I felt much more like myself today than I did yesterday. It was a good warm-up, and I’m working on being more mindful with my language.

After that, we took turns doing stress drills and final drills from the lessons we prepared. Finally, we studied the curriculum. I studied some skills that I haven’t practiced very much but are crucial to my test.

We received our assignments for our teaching test. I’m fortunate to have drawn a skill that I’m comfortable with. I started on my lesson plan tonight, and I’ll do the rest tomorrow.

All in all, I’m nervous because I want to do well. I need to trust my abilities and trust my principles, and I’ll be fine. All I can do is my best.

We’re down to the last few days!

This morning I woke up with a splitting headache, so I was glad I hadn’t planned to work out at 7 like usual. I hit the gym in the afternoon instead. I didn’t have a lot of time, so all my sets were power sets with very short breaks.

I’ve decided that I like looking up exercises in the BodySpace app, but I don’t like tracking on it. I had to modify some exercises today, and there isn’t room for that in the app. For example, I had one set of alternating dips and push ups. I can’t do dips unassisted, and there isn’t room near that machine to do push ups. I had to modify two things – dips became dips with an assist, and push ups on the ground became standing push ups. I couldn’t indicate any of that in the app. I may not be using it correctly, and I may be a total luddite, but I prefer my pencil and paper.

After that I grabbed lunch with Tiny Nick and rested before extra fencing practice. I fought at least one pass with everyone there, but I was fairly tired, so I felt like I was moving through Jello. I don’t know if the fatigue came from adjusting my sleep schedule or from hitting it hard at the gym today. It may even be from the nights I did lunges to stay in the challenge (my thighs certainly feel that). I hope to be back to myself tomorrow.

Day 7

I just knocked out my 100 for the day and finished off the week.

Something is wrong with the air conditioner in my home, and I ate entirely too much this evening. If I can do 100 lunges on a full stomach in this kind of heat and humidity, I am unstoppable.

Hitting the road tomorrow. I intend to lunge while I’m gone and maybe take in a practice with my friends to the east.
