Krav on Monday night was productive. We all warmed up together. Then Eddie taught the class while the rest of us covered most of the material in P1. Then we did the closing actions together.

I finally made it to Body Fat Tuesday! My day percent is up to 37.5. I hit the elliptical after class (with the mask). I was hangry and didn’t like the particular elliptical I was on, but I did the thing.

Nik and I lifted weights yesterday morning. I got lightheaded at one point even though I’d eaten breakfast. It passed. I don’t know what was up with that. The only thing I can figure is I went too fast. Here’s the set list.

Last night was my turn to teach at Krav. We covered mounted chokes on the ground. Everyone was huffing and puffing at the end of class, and everyone was doing the technique, so I’ll call it a win.

Today I was starving after class, so Nik and I came home for lunch. I’ll get some cardio in later – our schedule is wide open today.

Since Monday, Nik and I have been making a more concerted effort in the kitchen. We’re eating lots of veggies and chicken. The meals are great. What really hurts is the moratorium on sweets. We’re cutting sweets and alcohol (entirely) until I get home from CIC.

I’m finally back!

On Monday, I helped teach my first Krav class of the new year in the new venue. I had my usual first day jitters, but Eddie and Michael were there with me, and we made a great team.

On Tuesday, I hit the gym after class and did 30 minutes on the elliptical with the mask on. I did half the run set on 2 on both sides. I did the next 15 minutes at settings 2 and 3 and the final 15 with both sides set on 3 (the max is 4 on each side – I’m not sure what elevation that mimics).

Today Nik and I woke up early and hit the gym (like we meant to Monday). We lifted weights. Then I went to the beach with Emmers and took a walk. Tonight Michael and I took lead (with Eddie mixed in as a very enthusiastic student) at Krav. It was a busy day.

Tomorrow my plan is to do another 30 minutes on the elliptical after my office hours.

Today Nik and I hit the gym in the afternoon. Here’s my set list for today.

I tried to use the AMT (the hellspawn machine), but it kept telling me my heart rate was too high. When I slowed down, the machine reset. I got frustrated and tried running on the track. I think I ended up running 3.5 laps and walking 1.5. I had to click the mask down a couple elevations.

As a bonus, here’s Monday’s set list.

I thought I was taking it easy on Monday. I was not taking it easy.

Tonight Nik went to fencing while I attended a Krav meeting. We didn’t work out, but we ironed out a lot of details about our future as an organization. Tomorrow Nik and I will both go to Krav practice. I’m hoping to do more working out and less planning tomorrow.

I ended up not stopping cardio yet. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical with the mask on and had an average heart rate of 144

After a short rest, I went to club practice. I got to fence with Nik’s mentor Mikolaj. He’s an extremely skilled fencer, so I felt like I was doing good fencing when I gave him a good fight, even though I didn’t make a lot of touches.

Monday was kind of rough. It’s been gray and dreary outside, and that affects me. I did my cardio with my mask on for 30 minutes, and then I joined Nik for some lifting. I was struggling to get my heart rate in the range I like (140-160). I didn’t go to fencing practice on Monday night because I needed to get ready to teach my Tuesday morning class. Nik and I played some timing and judgment games when he got home from practice.

On Tuesday I did another 30 minutes of elliptical with my mask on, and I was able to increase the elevation. I got my heart rate up into the 140s and even into the 150s. Extra fencing practice was a little more structured than usual. We talked about a simple but effective dagger technique. It can be a bit tedious, but I think it’s a good way for people who are new to fencing with sword and dagger to start off against other new fencers or even intermediate fencers.

Yesterday (you guessed it) I did my 30 minutes on the elliptical with my mask on. I was able to get my heart rate up pretty quickly (in fact, it went over 160, which I’ve been avoiding), and I was able to increase the elevation slightly for part of my run. I think my heart rate was so high because I was watching the news. Apparently I run faster when I’m upset. After that I went to regularly-scheduled practice. I got to fence a variety of fencers on a variety of levels. Since it was Valentine’s Day, I made a point to fence with my husband (we rarely actually fence each other since we’re usually maximizing our teaching by being in two different places at once).

Today… Man, I don’t know how I’m going to do today. I want to do 30 minutes of cardio, and I want to work on my fencing, and I need to practice Krav. I don’t know if I’ll have enough time to do all of it and still get a good night’s sleep.

Today I did my 30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical. I can keep my heart rate in the neighborhood of 145 bpm comfortably. My mask comes in tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes once I try it out.

I noticed that I lunged a hole in my sneaker. Awesome. I’ll fix it with tape for now. Everything else about the show is fine.

Tonight I did Krav with Mike and Eddie. We practiced defense against hair pulls, so at the end of practice I looked like this.

When I got home, I showed Nik my lunge based on his suggestions. I still feel like it looks more like a big step than a proper lunge, but he says it’s an improvement, so I’m going to roll with it.

My elevation mask should be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Today was officially rest day for me. I got some stuff done around the house, and when Nik went to lift before fencing, I tagged along to do cardio.

At the gym, I tried a new machine that appears to be the unholy union of an elliptical and a stair master. I tried to keep my heart rate between 135-145. That was certainly a challenge. In 30 minutes, I think i logged about 3 miles.

After that I went to fencing. I was a little bit nervous, but I got to work with new people, and I did more actual fencing than I have in ages. I had a really good practice. I felt really healthy today.

Today I did my fitness assessment. As I suspected, I gained some weight (about 10 lbs from my last weigh-in) and some fat (1% from my most recent test). The trainer couldn’t measure the fat on my thigh because my quads are so huge. That was nice.

I was pleasantly surprised at my muscular endurance score. I did 40 push ups before losing form.

I don’t fully understand the cardio endurance test. I was supposed to keep a specific rate on the bicycle while the monitor measured my heart rate. Then the computer changed the resistance on the bike. It worked in 3-minute cycles. The computer told me I was done, but I felt like I could have gone longer. Then my report said my cardio needs improvement. I don’t disagree, but I also don’t understand why.

Improving cardio will help the other area that needs help – my fat percentage. I also talked to the trainer about weight lifting for burning day instead of weight lifting to bulk up.

My BP and heart rate (which aren’t bad but could be better) should improve in tandem with my cardio endeavors.

All that leaves is back flex. My plan is to do more yoga and lyra, but I’m not sure what I can afford this month since I need to make some repairs to my car. Yoga is free at UWF, but lyra (which is just so much fun) is off-site and carries a small fee.

Today was rest day, so I don’t have anything to report on that front. I ended up skipping fencing because I didn’t feel prepared for my real job tomorrow, so there’s nothing new there either. We’ll see what tomorrow has in store for me.
