I used to wear a chainmail shirt to elementary school. The teachers never knew what to do about it because there was no section in our dress code forbidding medieval armor.

… Where does an elementary school child get access to an actual shirt of chainmail sized properly for them?

Growing up as a historical reenactor meant that my parents are friends with lots of people who make chainmail. My godsister received a real rapier in fourth or fifth grade, so our unsupervised outdoor playtime was… formative.

Terry Crews of Brooklyn 99 gives the best advice on physical fitness.

Seriously, his Reddit AMA is the most genuinely upbeat, positive actor interview ever. Another great bit:

To be honest, this was the healthiest advice for getting into working out I’ve ever read, and it really was the inspiration for me to start running and going to the gym.

No judgement, no “you need to be doing this” mess. Just a simple “do what you can. and feel comfortable”

When is it sexist? – A Handy Chart

My favorite moment when playing FFXIV for the first time was seeing the men in the same ridiculous subligars as the women.

In order:

World of Warcraft

Dark Souls

Final Fantasy XIV

Seriously, Dark Souls is so good about this, I accidentally became female and didn’t even know about it until I was changing my gear.

Sorry, that last bit is funny to me because I’m just imagining this knight changing and looking at a pair of breasts like “…Those are new.”

THE LAST COMMENT KILLED ME

@bikiniarmorbattledamage

This morning I went for a walk in the beach. The water was calm, so the fish were going nuts, swimming and jumping, to oxygenate the water. That was really cool to see.

This evening was a Krav night. Eddie led class while Michael and I studied. After that, I came home and showed a few skills to my curious friends.

This morning I walked to the pier and back (I did on Monday too but forgot to mention it). Every step was murder on my shins and calves. I guess I was away from the coast for awhile because I am not used to walking on sand. I also went for a swim, but that was less exercise and more splashing around and cooling off.

This evening I went to fencing. I got to fence almost everyone at practice. I’m still readjusting to concepts like point control and keeping my weight balanced, but it’s coming along. I didn’t hurt anyone, but I’m also hesitant to come in quickly or otherwise be aggressive. I did short sets and took frequent breaks (legs were killing me – from not fencing or from beach walks?). I’m really glad to be back.

Houston Texans Defensive Tackle, Vince Wilfork for ESPN ‘Body Issue’ cover shoot

At 325 pounds, Vince Wilfork isn’t the traditional guy that would pose nude for a magazine — even one that celebrates athletes. But as he points out in the ESPN Magazine Body Issue video, released on Thursday; he has NOTHING to be ashamed of — even if there might be some mean comments about the photos.

I’m pretty sure there’s going to be some ‘oh he obese’ and ‘he’s this’ and woot the woot. Oh well. I’m PROUD of who I am…” he said. “I’m PROUD of my body. People can talk about me all they want. I don’t care. I NEVER lose sleep

YES.
