Today I did the second day of my student’s basic workout. I added more sets and reps to the weight parts. The ab circuit (especially the static holds like planks) made me pray for the sweet relief of death, but I did it. Here’s the set list.

Let’s see… I’ve been slacking with updates but not with exercise.

Set Monday I had a good Krav class. I don’t remember if I went to the gym or not. If I went, I did cardio.

I did go to the gym Tuesday. It was arm day. I cut my workout a little shorter than Nik’s so that I could run.

On Wednesday I did chest and abs and then went to Krav. That was a mistake. Conditioning was agony that day.

On Thursday I was sore, and we had company, so no workout for me. I skipped fencing on Friday because we had different company.

Saturday made up for it. I did a Krav seminar in the morning. Then I helped with a fencing demo in the afternoon and walked a 5K (in armor) at sunset.

I might go to yhe gym today; I don’t know. It depends on whether I can coax my feet into my sneakers. I have some pretty impressive blisters from yesterday.

I don’t have a record of Monday. Here are my set lists from Tuesday and Wednesday. I focused on free weights and cardio. You can see where I ran out of time on Tuesday and didn’t do what I planned to do.

This morning I walked on the beach and swam in the gulf.

I didn’t make it to Krav tonight. I have some major blisters on my feet, and I think a high intensity workout would rupture them. The last thing I need is open wounds on my feet for CIC. I want to be healed enough to train on Wednesday.

I did put on shoes long enough to go to the gym and lift. Here’s a set list.

One of my fencers wrote an exercise program for us, so I’m trying that out with some minor modifications. I added some ab work, and I’m doing more reps and sets at a low weight. At the end of the workout, I was ready to take off my shoes, but my blisters were still intact.

After that I swam laps for about half an hour. I heard swimming is a good way to train my body to work out with minimum oxygen intake. Plus I don’t need to wear shoes. That’s a huge benefit.

I feel really good! Maybe Nik will want to swim and lift tomorrow.

On Friday I was up bright and early for a demo at Gulf Breeze Elementary. I got to fence on and off for 3 hours. I hadn’t fenced much since Gulf Wars.

After that I went to the beach and swam a lot. It was a fun way to cool down, even if I did get a little bit too much sun.

On Saturday I met up with Mike and Eddie for some Krav Maga practice in the morning.

I skipped fencing on Sunday because I was worried I’d be an asshole. I was productive around the house, though, so that helped.

We really need to normalise exercising and eating well for reasons other than losing weight or building huge amounts of muscle. I’ve started going to the gym recently to relieve stress and help me sleep but despite the fact that I fit into shirts and skirts in size small, I’ve been asked if I’m trying to lose weight numerous times.

Here’s a list of non-aesthetic reasons to exercise:

  • relieves stress
  • keeps you healthy
  • improves sleep
  • can have a positive effect on mental health
  • makes you stronger and fitter
  • something to focus on other than work/school/uni
  • IT’S RECOMMENDED AS PART OF A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

I hope it’s cool if I add onto this.

  • It’s something I do with my partner
  • It’s something I do with my friends
  • I like the way it makes me feel
  • I like seeing what my body can do
  • I don’t want my heart to stop when I’m 43
  • Fitness helps me meet goals in my martial arts
  • I feel a sense of community with other gym rats

I was without Internet access a few days, so I’m behind on my updates.

On Tuesday I had limited time at the gym. I hit the elliptical for about 15 minutes with the mask at the highest setting. Here’s a photo of my stats.

I had another short workout yesterday (Wednesday). I did about 20 minutes on the elliptical with the mask on high. I didn’t get a good photo of the machine.

After that, I went to Krav. Mike and I had one student, so we trained with her. I got a nice workout. After class, I worked security at a bar until midnight – it wasn’t much of a workout. I just got some steps in.

Today was a rest day.

Today I hit the elliptical with the Everest mask on the highest setting. Here are some numbers.

I went to Krav in the evening. Michael was teaching, but I helped with the warmup, demonstrations, and stuff like that. I participated as much as I could.

The game was really challenging for me. I’m a little concerned about CIC 2. I was hoping my fitness level would be higher, but I’m not seeing much change in class. Bring able to run on the elliptical is all well and good, but I need to keep up in class for long periods of time.

I hope part of the problem is trying to talk and work out at the same time.

Today we had a guest from out of town come to the park for fencing practice. Nik and I hosted him. He’s a lot of fun and a skilled fencer.

Today was my first fencing practice at the park since the panic attack. I only fenced one person, but I did good fencing and had a good time. I got to do I.33, which is my favorite.
